8 Locks with a total lift of 24.1m (79ft). The Rideau canal ends or
starts here were it joins to the Ottawa River. The path
of Rideau canal was constructed away from the original Rideau river.
The Rideau river still empties into the Ottawa River with magnificent
water falls.

Laurier Hotel. Looking out over all 8 locks. The Parliament
Hill is above the far side of the locks overlooking the Ottawa River.

This panorama is taken beside the canal with a pole 15 feet in the air.
Looking out over all 8 locks. Lock 1 is at the Ottawa River and Lock
8 at the bridge. The Lock Master is opening up the water gate to allow
the small ship to travel upstream. Many spectators come to investigate as
they watch the Lock Masters in action.
